Acting for Camera Summer Workshops Madden Theatre Arts Hitchin and Cambridge
Madden Theatre Arts is launching Acting for Camera this September in Hitchin and Cambridge. Book your child's place at our summer introductory workshops and discover the screen acting skills that stage training alone can't teach.
Your young performer is ready for their close-up.
Screen acting is coming to Madden Theatre Arts this September. Before the weekly classes begin, join us this summer for a full day introductory workshop and discover what happens when a stage performer steps in front of a camera.

You've watched them shine on stage. But the industry has changed.
Your young person might be brilliant on stage. Confident, expressive, fully in character.
And then you point a camera at them and something shifts.
They perform for a back row that isn't there. They overplay every moment. The camera catches it all.
It's not their fault. Stage and screen are completely different disciplines. And most performing arts training only teaches one of them.
Auditions happen on self-tape now. Casting directors watch through a lens, not from a seat. The young performers who understand that difference are the ones who stand out.
This summer, we're giving them the chance to learn it.
One day. Real skills. A completely different kind of confidence.
Acting for Camera is MTA's brand new screen acting programme, launching in Hitchin and Cambridge this September.
Before the weekly classes begin, we are running introductory workshops over the summer holidays so your young person can experience it before enrolling.
By the end of the day they will have learned genuine on-screen technique, built confidence in front of a camera, and made some brilliant new friends.
No prior screen acting experience needed.
£50 per person.
10:00am to 4:00pm.
Limited spaces available.
A full day built around real screen acting technique.
Working within the MN Awards screen acting syllabus, your young person will spend the day exploring:
Audience absence: performing as if no one is watching, even though the camera always is. The skill that stops overacting in its tracks.
Active listening: responding in the moment, like it is the first time, every time. What makes a screen performance feel genuinely real.
Control: understanding how every small movement reads on camera. Stillness as a skill, not a limitation.
Working in frame - eyelines, marks, and the difference between wide, mid and close-up. The technical foundations every screen actor needs.
We're bringing it to young performers in Hitchin and Cambridge.

What MTA families say.
"My daughter has learned a lot of film acting skills. She has signed up as an Extra and she has gained even more confidence and knowledge. She has a brilliant relationship with her teacher and the lessons are exactly what is needed. We can't recommend this school enough. IT'S THE BEST."
"My daughter absolutely loves her sessions with MTA. She has always been a little shy but working with MTA has really boosted her confidence and she now loves getting involved."
"Our daughter looks forward to her sessions every week and is always buzzing afterwards. The sessions are fun, stimulating and rewarding. Confidence has grown and energy and enthusiasm are channelled."

The young performers who thrive on screen are the ones who learned early.
Self-taping is now the standard for professional auditions.
Screen confidence is no longer a bonus skill, it is a baseline expectation for any young performer serious about the industry.
The earlier they start, the further ahead they will be.
September classes are limited to 15 places per group. The introductory workshop is your young person's chance to experience it first and secure their place before enrolment opens.

About Madden Theatre Arts
MTA has been building confidence, skills and brilliant young performers since 2019. From a handful of young people in a portacabin in a car park, to a full team of specialist coaches across two locations, everything we do is built around one thing: giving young people the tools to perform at their best.
Acting for Camera is the next chapter. And we cannot wait to share it.
