Passionate About Inspiring Others

In 2019 I realised that I'd been teaching amazing young people for a while and offering many LAMDA sessions amongst other lessons, and that was when I decided to form Madden Theatre Arts and keep everything under one roof as it were! It was the best decision I ever made and I haven't looked back since. I absolutely love what I do and feel very fortunate to be surrounded by so many fun and eager to learn, enthusiastic people.

It gives me so much pleasure and joy to see people succeed whatever their goals! My main aim has always been for my students to take great pride in what they're doing, gain skills and above all - have fun! It has been incredibly rewarding to see amazing results from all the excellent work that is being produced by my students week in week out. I have received excellent exam results over the past few years and I held a really successful LAMDA Spring Showcase in February 2020. The plan is to make this an annual event! This was an opportunity for family and friends to come and watch their child perform their best piece of work to a live audience. We then mingled in the foyer for tea, coffee and cake afterwards to celebrate all the brilliant performances. I was beyond proud with what was achieved. In 2021 the Showcase will be virtual - fingers crossed for no technical glitches!

It has been so satisfying seeing and hearing about students thriving in everyday situations as well as taking great leaps in the performing arts. Knowing that children's confidence is growing in their social lives and in classroom situations is always so fantastic to hear. For some, performing may end up being their chosen career path, but not all, however knowing I'll have had an impact on their growth is a great feeling. I'm so grateful to meet every student that comes on to my screen or walk through my door as all exposure to boosting confidence, courage and curiosity is a positive one. The skills learnt in our sessions are stepping stones to which ever path the student takes.

At Madden Theatre Arts, I am incredibly passionate about ensuring every student feels empowered and excited about their journey into the performing arts, whether it be to improve their speech quality, boost their confidence or to work on their drama skills. They will be able to do it in a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive no matter what the goal.

In my spare time (when I have a little) I have quite a few hobbies outside of the performing arts, however many are still in the creative space (I know - so cliche, but true!) I love painting (my most recent paint by numbers was an absolute hit!) and sewing. I'm always looking for the next cross stitch pattern to follow. I really enjoy being outside in the fresh air, especially when the weather is good and enjoy running and walking.

I'm a huge coffee lover and spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking is really fun for me! Books are also a huge passion of mine, I love reading. My main joys are books that are either based on a true story or are real life stories and biographies.

I also love journaling so read many books about meditation, mindfulness and I'm also a huge yoga lover and practise regularly, you can often find me in downward facing dog and standing head to knee pose which is my absolute favourite!

In what I like to call 'super down time' I love watching Netflix because I love so many types of drama and documentaries. Let's face it, in this current climate who doesn't like binge watching the latest boxset to switch off.

Outside of my home, I love trips to London to watch plays and Musicals. I'm a huge Shakespeare nerd and just love almost any type of live theatre. I'm always passionate about finding something new to watch.

My friends and family are incredibly important to me and love spending time with them! Socialising is a big part of my life as I love people and human interaction. People watching is also a hobby of mine - don't worry I'm not a stalker I promise! I also have an incredibly supportive other half who works behind the scenes at MTA on various projects and is always the first to hear all my new ideas!

more about kathleen

I grew up in Harlow, Essex and started attending performing arts classes at the age of 6.

After gaining a BTEC National Diploma in Dance at Harlow College I went on to train professionally at The Centre Performing Arts College where I gained Diplomas in Theatre Performance and Teaching Studies and also DDI ISTD Modern and Tap qualifications.

Since graduating, I have been teaching a range of performing arts classes across Hertfordshire and Essex to students of all ages and abilities.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy going to watch musicals and shows in London! I’m always excited to see the next new musical! This is something I have really missed doing recently.

I also enjoy going for long walks and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.

I love travelling and exploring new places, so when I have time off I always look forward to booking a break away to somewhere new and exciting!
